solar energy
Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of ever-evolving technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar architecture, molten salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis.

Canada and the United States recorded the largest installs to date, and while legislation and policy changes both enacted and upcoming-indicate radical changes towards Solar’s future, solar energy companies have been valiant of these supposed threats.

To better demonstrate in perspective, the U.S Energy Department estimates that 9.5 gigawatts of solar generating capacity were built in 2016, tripling the amount installed in 2015. These numbers exceed the anticipated 8.0 GW of natural gas capacity, and 6.8 GW of wind capacity added this same year.

The U.S Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects solar capacity to continue growing, anticipating an increase of more than 30 percent in 2017.

While the jury is still out for 2016 install data for Canada, we can say that it has been a good year for the global solar energy industry.
