Reuters reports that French president, Emmanuel Macron, pledged 700 million euros to the International Solar Alliance.
The International Solar Alliance is an inter-governmental organization launched by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015.
It aims to mobilize $1 trillion in funds for a future solar generation, storage and technology across the world.
Speaking on Sunday at the founding conference for the organization, Macron said France was more than tripling its commitment to the alliance, and its total monetary contribution to the alliance stood at one billion euros.
However, critics argue that: “Even as the Indian prime minister welcomes more than 20 world leaders to New Delhi for the International Solar Alliance conference… the evidence is building that the spectacular growth in the Indian solar market is grinding to a halt.” While at the conference, the French president also criticised Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement
