SEENEWS Renewables | DIANA HRISTOVA —
Chile’s environmental authorities have approved two photovoltaic (PV) projects that could generate up to 392 MW in the northern Antofagasta region, according to the environmental licences published on Wednesday.

US solar modules maker First Solar proposed to build the Sol del Desierto park with an estimated potential of 369.36 MW in Maria Elena municipality in order to produce nearly 1,035 GWh a year for the northern Chilean system.

The other project, San Pedro VI, comprises 76,680 modules that will add 22.45 MW to the grid. The plant, worth USD 50 million (EUR 44.7m), will be installed in Calama as an extension of the San Pedro III PV park, both owned by Rijn Capital BV. The company has recently secured 18-year financing worth USD 104 million for the whole 54-MW project.
