A unit of Finnish utility Fortum Oyj (HEL:FUM1V) said today it has connected to the grid a 10-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Fortum Finnsurya Energy Pvt Ltd will officially inaugurate the solar park early next year. The installation comprises about 125,000 thin-film cadmium-telluride (CdTe) panels that were mounted on fixed tilt structures. It also uses 15 central inverters.

The firm pointed out that the Kapeli solar park is the first to be commissioned among the schemes granted under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) Phase II Batch I bidding round.

The Finnish group acquired a 5-MW solar power station in the state of Rajasthan in the summer of 2013. The plant in Madhya Pradesh is its second solar investment in India.

In February 2014, Fortum India’s managing director Matti Kaarnakari told The Times of India that the company had set aside INR 16 billion (USD 253m/EUR 208.3m) for investments in local renewable energy projects.
