The federal government announced on Tuesday a $3.9-million investment, part of Canada’s Energy Innovation Program, to support the construction of Sifton Properties’ mixed-used highrise building at its West 5 development project in northwest London.

“This really is the future,” Kate Young, Liberal MP for London West, said during the funding announcement. “A future where we combine better energy efficiency, more renewable energy and sustainable technologies to create good jobs, a stronger economy, and healthier and thriving communities.”

Named Helio, the 10-story, 115-unit building is being dubbed as Canada’s most energy efficient highrise. It will be powered by solar panels and be 77 percent more efficient than the average building now in existence.
